Lessons From Creation

Ginger and Cali, two dogs, both are mixed. Three different breeds each, so there are about six different genetic compositions between the two. Then, there is the age difference.

Ginger is about seventy-seven in dog years and is an alpha female. She wants to rule, be in charge, set the tone, and will let you know if things are not going her way. We love Ginger. Cali, Jack Russell, Beagle, and Pug mix; a pup, less than a year old, full of energy, void of wisdom and experience, plays, eats, sleeps, and demands more attention from her masters than Ginger. Yes, she will push her way right in if Ginger seems to be getting more love. We love Cali.

Ginger is housebroken and has been for some years. She always does a "good girl". Cali is learning. Now, she will come and paw at us when she is in search of the right spot. She has had a few accidents, but she is learning. We love Cali.

Cali is the new kid on the block. Ginger, being older, her life is simple. She lays around, chews on some-thing, occasionally plays tug of war, always wants a rub on the head, and she's good. Cali plays tug of war. With Cali, our days consist of, "Cali, play with your toys!"; "No, Cali, chew only your chew toys and not the furniture!", "No, Cali, do not grab a pinecone out of the fall decorations!"; "No, Cali, stop dragging dirty clothes from the clothes hamper!". If dogs could talk, Cali would say, "Ginger, let's play tackle", "I am bored, is it time to eat?" Ginger loves Cali.

Sometimes, Cali gets on Ginger's nerves, crosses her, and tries to take something from her. Ginger will give her a sharp growl and maybe even a little nip on the nose and Cali gets the message. Cali loves Ginger.

You see, two dogs without a conscience, without government, and without law seem to be able to co-exist. They eat and drink from separate bowls, they sleep in separate beds, they eat different foods, and have very different personalities. Still, they can abide in the same house.

Sometimes, we must intervene, referee, correct, chasten, as well as give shout outs when they do the good girls, and we find a way to live together.

We all love each other, and it is made apparent in the way we accept one another, respect one another, and appreciate one another.

We humans can learn a lesson from creation. We could learn to accept one another. Although we are different, possess varied opinions, come from different back grounds, and have vast proportions of genetic makeup, we are all one in Christ. We are one body, the family of God. Oh, that we would play together, eat together, worship together, labor together, and find rest together in the comfort of our Master's care.

"Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love." -1 John 4:7-8
