When God Singles You Out - Part 2

ree

Will you answer the call...

Last week, using various illustrations, we began talking about being singled out. Today, I would like to focus our attention on you and your relationship with God, your Heavenly Father. I am persuaded that God is looking for individuals to do His kingdom work. He is seeking people who will step up to the plate, rise to the challenge of defending His Word, and work among humanity. The call has echoed throughout history, inviting whosoever will, come! We learn of the examples in the Book of Hebrews, Noah, Abraham, David, Peter, and Paul; all of whom became heroes of the Christian faith, because God singled them out. The call is to service. There is never much glamour in the service industry.

Think about the two-dollar tip left on a restaurant table where a single mother has served. She makes minimum wage, hoping the generosity of her customer's tips will make up the difference so she can meet her many obligations, such as, paying rent or a car payment, buying some , and maybe new school clothes for her daughter or son. After having been singled out numerous times to take an order, serve the order, and have to take back the order because the customer is unhappy with meal. She brings ketchup, dressing, beverage after beverage, and deals with ungrateful attitudes. Then, she must clean the terrible mess left on the table. All for a two-dollar tip? The reality is the waitress is needed. She awakens every day to serve, knowing that her day could be a fifty-fifty shot at negative or positive, yet she continues to serve.

What is hindering you? God has singled out some people and gifted them with various talents. Some have buried them, some offer a two-dollar tip, while others hide their candle under a bushel. The gift and the calling of God are without repentance. If God has singled you out, as He did David, if He wants to use you in the spotlight, so to speak, at this moment in time, are you ready, are you willing to do His bidding? Do you feel the tug of your heart? Are you hearing the still small voice urging you to kingdom work? When we answer God's call to serve, there is no glamour, no happy news media, no earthly riches or fame, and acceptance is rarely assured. However, there is joy and peace, confidence and security, and the promise of His abiding presence. There is a call ringing out for laborers. There is a harvest that is ripe, and God is singling out some people to do His service. Will you accept the challenge? Will you hit the buzzer with the winning shot, will you score a winning touchdown, will you run the race, will you finish the course, and will you wake up every day to serve?

Just remember, some mother, has worked harder to provide for her children... all for a two-dollar tip.
