The Love Of God

ree

"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God." -1 John 4:7 (NKJV)

One of our grandsons recently had a birthday, and he received a sizable amount of money

for a 5-year old. Yesterday, his mother decided to take him shopping to spend all his birthday money. I am sure his little mind was racing when he got to the store and saw all of the toys and all the options available to him for purchasing; tools, super heroes, excavators, guns... and on and on.

Amidst the assortment of all his bountiful selections, he had a moment of thoughtfulness.

A moment when a little blue-eyed, blonde-haired adversary who lives with him suddenly became a loving big sister, and his attention was turned towards her. He proceeds to tell his mother he wants to buy something for his sister with his money.

An exciting day of shopping and buying whatever he wanted for himself, became a moment of thoughtfulness, a blessing for someone he loves and cares for deeply, even though the sibling wars will no doubt continue.

You see, giving is at the heart of love. Thoughts of kindness are often obscured by the actions of human imperfections. By their adolescent ways, a sibling may not appear to mean well to another sibling, but the reality of kindred love will surface at unsuspected and thoughtful moments. So it is in the family of God! We give... we love!
